Building The Website: The Ideas Behind It
My idea for the website was to create a simple and intuitive website to represent the organisation I had chosen. Being able to choose the organisation was fun but also useful in practical terms. It created enthusiasm and interest in the project and, having chosen, allowed a mix of research and imagination to develop ideas and put in to practice the theories and methods taught in the module. Being rooted in a place, albeit as a fictional organisation, gave a basis for decision making about the service and it's users. I found it useful to create user profiles, which led to a tailoring of the service and website.
A difficulty of doing a website for a small, private community library is that, understandably, there aren't many of them to compare with. A near comparison, in terms of size and type of user, would be public libraries, but they tend to be represented as a part of an area/borough/county's library service.
