Building The Website: The Details
There was a balance to be struck, I feel, between and fleshing-out the details, which it would be easy to get carried-away with. For instance providing local information or creating tweets for the fictional account. I worried a little about the ethics of making up details and creating fictional accounts on Social Media, as although the organisation is fictional, the place it is located in is not, and the website refers to real places, buildings and businesses. This was both beacuse I didn't want to cause confusion (not that there would be a mass of people swarming to my feeds and pages) and being careful to remain anonymous for the purpose of the assignment marking. I decided to create a Twitter account but not for one for Facebook, as the Twitter requires less information to appear complete
Another balance to find was with the tools on the site. I wanted to have a catalogue search, but wanted to show it as it would look in a real site and not link to another library's, so I decided to represent it with an image of search tool instead. When deciding what sort of video to embed, I wanted to feature at least one that was library related and would be useful for users, so I chose a catalogue search video, just as an example, even if it contradicted the search instructions I'd written.
